With a little encouragement and proper teaching techniques the student can easily transition into Grade One of the Thompson series without this monstrosity of a "sequel" (which isn't a Thomson book, by the way). I have no idea where this world rate on a scale of beginner books but...

the rhythms and fingerlings make absolutely no sense for ANY pianist. I had the misfortune of trying this with one of my students and she's never recovered. I had to move her into the Noona series because she was afterward terrified of the Thompson. She had done well with Teaching Little Fingers, but that next one confused her and ruined the Thompson series for her forever. Skip it. Please. Don't subject your students to this terrible book

This book is advertised as a follow-up to "Teaching Little Fingers to Play." I do love that book. However, I would not recommend using the sequence of the two books. "Teaching Little Fingers to Play More" is, I think, a little too difficult as a sequel. The rhythms are...

too advanced for a beginner. My students became pretty frustrated with the counting of notes and not without reason. The melodies of this book are lovely, but the book is not for a beginner, and I haven't figured where I would put it in my teaching of students.

I had already purchased this product. However, my teacher said she usually doesn't use it because it goes into much detail withouth explanation.

The music in this book is not nearly as satisfying as the original Teaching Little Fingers to Play, and it is also too difficult for many students who have just completed Teaching Little Fingers to Play. (Notice it's the only book in the series not authored by John Thomspon...

himself.) Whenever I have put a student into Teaching Little Fingers to Play More right after they completed Teaching Little Fingers to Play, their playing and motivation went downhill. Now as a second book I give them John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course Book 2 instead.
