This piece is a great piece for advanced or very skilled intermediate band. It can be played by a mature High school concert band. Challenging and energetic, your students are sure to love it!

  • 2005-03-02 00:00:00.0 Wow.

Having played Variations On A Korean Folksong (10th grade), Incantation and Dance (6th grade), AND Symphony No. 2 (9th grade), I would have to say Symphony No. 2 is by far the best of the three, and most certainly the hardest for a bassoon player! The first movement is probably...

the hardest, but most fun to play and listen to. But the other two movements aren't too shabby, either.

  • 2003-01-12 00:00:00.0 Why hasn't anyone recorded this?

Just one correction to Jacob's review. This is based on a synthetic scale of 4 notes, not 3. This is by far the best of Chance's works that I have heard, and is the better of the two that I have played as a musician (the other being...

Incantation and Dance). I am amazed that this has never been professionally recorded, even by such groups as the Eastman Wind Ensemble or Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, who have recorded other works by Chance.

  • 2001-12-01 00:00:00.0 Awsome piece...

This work by Chance ranks alongside "Incantation" and "Dance" as being one of if not the BEST piece of concert band/wind ensemble music ever written. His style in composition is like nothing that I've ever heard and like nothing I've ever played (he is a Godsend to...

great bass clarinet players like me who can normally only wish for a cool part in a piece....). I have heard all of his songs, but this one and "Incantation" are in my opinion his best...

  • 2001-02-02 00:00:00.0 Speaking from xperience:I've played this

This is a very intruiging piece, and quite interesting (it is based around 3 notes). A very simplistic introduction leads into an extremely dificult exposition and development of the secondary theme...etc. All 3 movements flow together quite nicely; this score is invaluable in analyzing Chance's ingenious utilization of...

    the wind band. Get it!
