Summertime Program Notes

Summertime is an aria composed in 1934 by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. The song has become a popular and much-recorded jazz standard and is considered one of the finest songs ever written by George Gershwin.  This arrangement is scored for E- Clarinet, 5 B- Clarinets, and Bass Clarinet.  There are divisi notes in several of the parts that help fill out the lush harmonies when more than one player is available on a part.
