Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Austin Ralphson. 20th Century,Concert. Score and parts. 53 pages. Austin Ralphson #432607. Published by Austin Ralphson (A0.562991).

This is a brass quintet arrangement of Ravel’s String Quartet in F, 1st movement (Allegro Moderato). Having studied this work in depth in its original orchestration, I was drawn to the possibility of reworking it for brass - and I think it works very well indeed. Whilst technically challenging for all five players, it is rewarding when worked up to a good standard, demanding techniques such as double tonguing, flutter tonguing, multiphonics, glissandi etc. I have performed this arrangement with a brass quintet with great success.
