If Hoagy Carmichael were alive today he might say that 'Stardust' is a song that wants to write itself. Maybe he said it. Leonardo once said, "Art is never finished". He died in France with some of his greatest paintings still in his possession, years after their consignment. That's why the Mona Lisa hangs in the Louvre in Paris. Hoagy could not sight-read music, but he could write it with the best of them. 'Stardust' has oft been touted as "the best song ever written". It's certainly one of the most haunting melodies one encounters. Naturally, he would write his music in the key of 'C', the note of the middle key on a piano, in the median range of the human voice. Almost everyone sings it in 'G'. Stardust is a song that I have been wrapping my head around since I first heard it as a child.  I decided to take up the challenge of arranging a guitar chord accompaniment, as I interpret the original sheet music to require, for any 'C' instrument and of course, voice, to honor Hoagy Carmichael's original musical arrangement, which was music first and which became song when Mitchell Parish wrote lyrics for the composition, requiring music for an introductory verse. That's why this arrangement is in two parts, with the first flowing into the original seamlessly when performed as written, with no further consideration given for the triplet occupying the measure all by itself in the introduction to the score of the second part, the original. Hoagy did it.
