Spiegel im Spiegel (1978) Fur violine und Klavier by Arvo Part Chamber Music - Sheet Music
By Arvo PartSpiegel im Spiegel is a well-known example of Arvo Part's Tintinnabuli style and has been used in many films. Spiegel im Spiegel illustrates his creative principles: above a permanent flow of chords on the piano, the cello unfolds a cantilena in long note values, which grows out of succinct steps. This cantilena spins out sweeping, chorale-like arches and spreads itself out more and more. It thus gives rise to a new architectonic configuration which, like a mediation chapel, stimulates reflection, prayer, or the desire for redemption. (Jurgen Kochel)

Very nice original sheet music. The piano piece had the violin part on the sheet, and an extra sheet with just the violin part was included: very complete.

There is nothing whatsoever flashy about this piece, but it is very difficult to pull off. Both players must be able to spin a long, long line. Pianists note: play the quarters with the right hand throughout. The left hand plays the low sustained notes and crosses over to play the high notes.

Fabulous piece. Gorgeous harmonies. Violin part demands control of vibrato and sustained bow strokes.

I first discovered this piece on a CD performed by Vadim Gluzman and Angela Yoffe. It is a mesmerizing composition that, though seemingly simple, is absolutely gorgeous writing. I was moved to order it and to perform it. It is a piece of much restraint, and thus requires very controlled bowing.

This piece pierces my heart with incredible intensity every time I hear it. The simplest melodies can be the most beautiful, and this piece proves that with unrelenting beauty. I said early intermediate because it must be played with softness of the bow and of the fingers- that may be difficult for a beginner. And both players MUST be in tune. Fun fact- this piece is featured in the film Wit (Emma Thompson, 2001). I encourage you to see it. Go out on a limb and trust a stranger on this one.
