Scarlatti had the good fortune to be born in the exact same year as two other giants of the Baroque era: J.S. Bach and Händel in 1685. Scarlatti even had a musical competition with Händel on harpsichord and organ. Scarlatti won the harpsichord contest and Händel...

won, hands down, on the organ. And while Scarlatti proved himself as really only slightly better on the harpsichord, he proved himself compositionally and that is where this book of his Fugues and Sonatas come into play. He was just as good at counterpoint as Bach and maybe even better than Händel. And while this book is “slim” it’s worth every nickel. Buy it and try it for yourself!
