This sonata has everything, virtuostic passages, melodious phrases, and it's a brilliant example of the French impressionistic composing that was common with Ravel. This sonata isn't particularly hard in the aspect of hard passages, although it has its share of tough passages, it's more difficult in that...

each note must be played with passion and conviction. In this sonata, unlike many, the music calls for passion over perfection. The music is very worth the price, which isn't too steep to other sonatas of less calibur. Although I am tooting this sonata's horn, I do admit that there is some fault in it. It's is too short, in my opinion. I'm not one to tell Ravel how long to make his pieces, but it is only three movements, and I know, that's not uncommon, but all three are short. That is because with music as good as this, one can't help hoping it was a longer. This is an instance where one must say "Quality over Quantity".
