Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem describes an idyllic winter scene, complimented by the piano accompaniment and descending vocal lines which mirror the poet's description of gently falling snow. This secular gem, easily-learned, with limited ranges in all parts makes a superb addition to a winter/holiday program.

This composition is so peaceful and breath-takingly beautiful, yet it seems that it is sad in a way. Like someone mourning in the snow or looking out at it with a sad memory of it. This piece adds that sense of winter to any concert and the piano accompaniment...

    alone is wonderous.
