These well-written melodies are a great resource for developing musicians. This series (Skilful Studies) contains the same 40 tunes, transposed to appropriate keys, and are helpful for teaching musicianship beyond just right notes and rhythms. Phrases are shown with breath marks and plenty of articulation markings and dynamics are given. A wide variety of key signatures (from four sharps to three flats) and time signatures (4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 2/2, 6/8) are used. Rhythms advance from eighth notes and dotted quarters to sixteenths by the end of the volume.

I believe this would be a useful set of studies in the progress from beginner to the next stage in the persons advancement. However the addition of the c.d. as in the solos album would be an advantage.I strongly recommend theuse of the c.d.when avaiable
