Accessible, simple, but not trivial by any means, I['m haveing a lot of fun trying out these well-crafted pieces by one of my all time favorite jazz musicians. The "Two Part Adventures" book is equally fine.

  • November 16, 2008 Weak arrangements

The arrangements in this volume were weak because they do not follow the form correctly and the voicings don't sound authentic. For instance, the introduction to Take Five is only two bars long - not enough time to establish the groove. The arrangements are supposed to be "easy" level, but...

it's too watered down to make sense.

  • May 30, 2008 Brubeck Works It Out!

This is a neat little anthology of Dave Brubeck's work...a good way to sum his style up. From the soft, sweet "In Your Own Sweet Way" to a sassier "King for a Day" to the jumpy "Unsquare Dance" to the smooth, jazzy "Take Five", this book covers it...

all. It looks easy as you pick it up, but you are challenged by the complex Brubeckian rhythmic patterns and key changes. A fun book for all intermediate and advanced players!
