Composed by Traditional Hymn. Arranged by Stephen M. Taylor. Christian,Folk,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 5 pages. SMT Music #3042259. Published by SMT Music (A0.749716).

This well-loved tune was written by Joseph Brackett (1797–1882) in 1848. Brackett, a lifelong resident of Maine, first joined the Shakers at Gorham, Maine, when his father's farm helped to form the nucleus of a new Shaker settlement. The words to "Simple Gifts)" was sometimes attributed to by Elder Joseph who also lived in Maine. The song was used by Aaron Copeland in his Appalachian Spring ballet. This simple tune works well for string quartet and we often use it at weddings.
It is nice to play it unison then go into harmony. .
