"Shenandoah" (also called simply  “OhShenandoah” or "Across the Wide Missouri") is atraditional American folk songof uncertain origin, dating to the early 19th century.

The song appears to have originated with Canadian and American voyageurs orfur traders traveling down the MissouriRiver in canoes, and has developed several different sets of lyrics. Somelyrics refer to the American Indian chief Shenandoahand a canoe-going trader who wants to marry his daughter. By the mid 1800sversions of the song had become a sea shantyheard or sung by sailors in various parts of the world.
