Horace Silver's 1956 classic fuses a hard bop approach to the blues with an Afro-Cuban groove. First released as an instrumental on 6 Pieces of Silver (Blue Note 1539), Senor Blues qucikly became a jazz standard, and even gained some mainstream recognition.

In 1958 Silver added lyrics and re-recorded the tune with vocalist Bill Henderson. The relatively simple melodic and harmonic content make this a perfect introduction to Afro-Cuban 6/8 (or 12/8) time in jazz.

This arrangement closely follows the form of the 1958 version, including the instrumental interlude at letter D, although it has been transposed down a minor 3rd to make it suitable for female vocalist(s) and for ease of reading. This arrangement is also available in the original key of Eb minor - see JB002.

An original ending has been added. Solos can be taken by any ensemble member using the changes included in the Lead part.

The solo section (E) may also be skipped if preferred by taking the D.S. 2 bars before E.

This requires a minimum of 2, but up to 4, melodic instruments, which may be any combination of:

1) Trumpet/Clarinet/Soprano Sax/Flute/Violin

2) Alto Sax/Trumpet/Clarinet

3) Tenor Sax/Trumpet

4) Trombone/Tenor Sax/Baritone Sax

Lead melody part - may be vocal or any treble instrument

(Optional) Harmony part - may be vocal or any instrument

Piano, Bass, Drums, opt. Guitar

Duration: 4'35
