If one can get rid of the notion that Pachelbel’s “Canon in D” is probably one of the most overplayed piece of music in the history of such, then one can get into the “meat and bones” of this very excellent south German organist/composer. He has many excellent...

fugues, toccatas, praeludiums, etc. that have gone unnoticed because of the aforementioned Canon. And while fanatics of Buxtehude and their pomposity of style regarding pedaliter, Pachelbel should not be overlooked simply because he enjoyed a pedal point and oft-repeated notes. And while, in my opinion, he cannot compare with the likes of Händel, he comes awfully close to that famous composer in some of his Ciaconas, especially the one in D, which is in this volume.
