The Russian Easter Overture is a symphonic overture by the renowned Russian teacher and composer Nicolaj Rimskij-Korsakov (1844-1908), especially well-known for his skills in orchestration. Composed between August 1887 and April 1888, he dedicated the work to the memory of Modest Mussorgskij and Alexander Borodin. In order to recount the passage of time from the Passion on Saturday and Christ's Resurrection the next day, the composer drew inspiration from orthodox church liturgies.
