One of the most widely used series of methods for individual or like-instrument class instruction. • October 17, 2010 The quintessential beggining method book

Originally published in 1934, the Rubank book remains the standard method book for beginners. I remember using the same light-blue book when I studied trombone in the band as a youth. Many years later I am using the same method to learn the saxophone as an adult. Everything is...

covered meticulously and in the proper order. Every page is a lesson: simply repeat each lesson until you have mastered it, then proceed to the next one. When you have finished this book (I did in about three months) you will have learned to finger all the notes of the saxophone and sight-read music in nine different keys as well as play the complete chromatic scale. I highly recommend this book to beginners of all ages.

I'm presently instructing my son and one of my daughters in how to play the alto saxophone. This method is easy to follow and they are progressing at an acceptable level of learning. I would recommend this method to all teachers who are instructing the beginning student.

My private teacher used this book when I started lessons 20 years ago. Still now, as I have my own students, I use the same book. Nothing else I've seen is as solid as this book. If you want to learn to play the latest song on the radio...

, then go elsewhere. BUT, if you want to learn to play well and be properly prepared for playing any style of music, then get this book.

While it doesn't feature the glossy photos and extra CD's of the newer methods, the content and material of this book continues to be copied by others. This is a well tested saxophone method and continues to be used by private teachers across the country because of it...

's affordable price and outstanding methodology
