    Difficulty Level:
  • April 10, 2017 Early Skills for Romantic playing

The opening of this piece is unaccompanied, with the violist shifting twice in dramatic crescendo. I add a portamento, giving it an even more romantic feel. Once the piano joins in, the solo is a lovely romantic barcarolle. Then a cadenza, followed by arpeggios to accompany the piano à la Rebecca...

Clarke. A short work, packed with skills needed for romantic playing. Great for vibrato, shifting, long bows, dynamic contrast, and changing tone colors.
