My favorite Mark Hayes collection so far. Every selection is one I can use in our worship service for preludes or offertories.

Happy for those who like the frills offered, but simplicity such as found with Martha Mier rate higher with me.

Mark Hayes is incredibly talented as an arranger but his music is often much too "frilly" and sometimes contains modern harmonies and chord structures that, in my opinion, don't fit into the piece. I bought this book mainly for the songs "Be Not Afraid", "One Bread, One Body", and...

"On Eagle's Wings". The arrangement of "Be Not Afraid" is absolutely awesome as is, although I do eliminate one or two frills and one modern chord.) The other pieces are nice but are much too elaborate for my taste; music doesn't have to be fancy to be beautiful. I am, however, content with this purchase, because "Be Not Afraid" is all by itself worth the price of the book. Rating this book 3 stars only because of the excessive ornamentation and modern interpretations. People who appreciate this style would probably love this book.
