    This was actually my first trombone solo piece. It was also one of the pieces I played when auditioning for college which went well (I got in). While it is easy to play the notes in this solo it is quite a challenge musically. I'd recommend young trombonists let...

    a private instructor help with the interpretation of this piece because otherwise you are unlikely to get everything that you can out of it.

    This piece was used in the 1960's as the tryout piece for the high school All State band. The growling recitative (a man angry at his God?) and the lyrical prayer that follows (he has found peace) provide the opportunity for the trombonist to show his attack, his legato...

    , his tone, and his phrasing. No piece provided me more pleasure -- and challenge.
