Had I known before purchasing this volume that 2/3 of the book would be given up to academic-scholarly reportage, then I would have passed on this volume. The academic vibe of the description was so boring that I literally was falling asleep trying to read (and decipher) what...

on earth was being said. If you are a PhD level musicologist then perhaps this volume will serve you well, but I wanted more “meat” on the bone, so to speak. Which means more music. Sure, Frescobaldi, to some, is the ultimate but I just wanted the music. If you’re looking for just music, look into the Edition-Peters volumes, which don’t waste your time with academic posturing. Disappointed. And very pricey!
