William Edmonstoune Duncan (1866-1920) studied with Parry and Stanford at Royal College; wrote an opera, string trio, a sonata and other works for piano, organ and songs; books include a biography of Schubert and an Encyclopaedia of Musical Terms; Quintet won prize given by Lesley Alexander in 1898.
