This appearance of Purgatorio marks the completion of Robert W. Smith's first symphony for band, The Divine Comedy. Following the hugely successful introduction of the other three movements, Purgatorio leads us through a contemplation of Purgatory.     I remember when I was in High School and our band played this piece. We were scheduled to leave for competion and had a concert the night before. Our director saved Purgatorio for last, and once it was complete, there were a few seconds of silence and then the audience...

    went crazy. It blew them away, which, I might add, it had the same effect on the judges at Fiestaval.
