  • 2007-08-09 00:00:00.0 Good Content - but occasional errors

This book is excellent material to blow through for sight-reading - you'll find some rhythm exercises and hands separate practice, but for the most part it has (as it's title indicates) short, practical exercises in the style of a through-composed piece. It has a lot of different...

textures as well as many common meters. It is generally all in the classical style (which is a GOOD thing!). Two problems: 1) It is a short book. Don't expect it to last any longer than a week with daily practice. 2) There are occasional errors: wrong notes, too many or too few beats in a measure, things like that. They're perfectly obvious errors - so you'll pick them out right away - but kind of annoying when you're trying to be fast. They are very occasional, though, and shouldn't deter you from purchasing the book.
