  • January 29, 2019 Good Start for Clementi Sonatas

    Decent collection of Clementi sonatas. The real star of the collection of the op. 50 no.3 Didone Abbandonata (D.A. is a libretto written by Metastasio which has been set to music over 50 times by many composers.) . If you can handle Haydn and Mozart by all means play...

    Clementi. Mozart said some very disparaging thing about Clementi but his music leaves nothing to be desired. It's not at the Mozart level of genius but if we insisted on absolute perfect we miss out on the good. In this case, the very, very , very good. If it works out for you be all means get a complete edition or more complete collection like Henle. Also, these Dover books are inexpensive reprints. The binding is STRONG so we shouldn't be afraid to bend the book, mash it, drive your car over it, whatever it takes to keep it open. It WILL stay open and not lose pages. The other reviewer was very unfair about this. I would have given this 4 stars but gave five to counteract the unfair negative one star review.

    The stiff binding makes it impossible! I had to xerox the sonata I am working on in order to get a workable manuscript.
