I have owned this book for over 20 years, and the arrangements have always been favorites when I've been asked to play for family, friends, or at church. The arrangements do last for about 5-7 minutes each, and tend to end with a bang, so they're not...

always the best for offertories, but they are definitely uplifting, God-glorifying arrangements. All Creatures of Our God and King is an awesome arrangement, but also good is Jesus Shall Reign Wher'er the Sun and Music for Children, which is a *fantastic* compilation of children's songs (like Jesus Loves Me, Jesus Loves the Little Children, etc.) done in a way that never fails to please! The arrangements do require skill to play well, so don't attempt if you're not classically trained and not ready to invest some serious time into learning them.

This is a great book because of the skillful arranging, but some of the songs don't really work for most situations. "All Creatures of Our God and King" is outstanding and may alone be worth the price of the book. The problem with the book is that the only...

hymn that people really know well is "It is Well with My Soul" (plus maybe the aforementioned "Creatures") The arrangment of "It is Well With My Soul" is good but it strays quite a distance from the melody of the song. It's always annoying when you play an arrangment of a popular hymn and no one recognizes it. Overall, I recommend it highly for advanced pianists. It may be worth it just to study Cornell's style, as he is a very talented arranger.
