Published by David McKeown (A0.587621).Peter Gunn was written by Henry Mancini as the theme tune to the TV series of the same name in 1959. It was an instant hit and quickly gained a life of its own, winning Emmys and Grammys along the way. It has since been rerecorded by numerous artists as diverse as Jimi Hendrix and Aretha Franklin.
This version is a straightforward Clarinet Quartet arrangement scored for three Bb Clarinets and one Bass Clarinet. There are alternative parts for Alto Clarinet and a fourth Bb Clarinet in case a Bass Clarinet is not available. It suits players at an easy to intermediate standard and is guaranteed to be popular with young and old. Part 3 in particular is written for beginners, while the Bass Clarinet player will require stamina and good breathing technique to keep the rhythmic momentum throughout.
