Published by Esther Lindeboom (S0.296041).In the early sixteenth century Henry III, Count of Nassau , married the Spanish lady Mencia de Mendoza. She took a look at Henry's castle and decided it needed a make over. The old castle was partly rebuilt and converted into a renaissance palace. Nowadays, it houses the Dutch Defence Academy. The Spanish sounding intro reminds us of Mencia. The theme, which is presented in bars 17-33, refers to the compositions of the Spanish composer Antonio de Cabezón.
