"Pat-a-Pan" is a delightful Burgundian tune that dates back to the 17th century. Although in a minor mode, the tune is light-hearted and frolicsome in nature. It is a dance, which celebrates Christ's birth with "fife and drum." It should be played with a happy heart, giving careful attention to all staccato and malleted notes. Optional instrumental parts are available separately (2291D).

    Difficulty Level:
  • June 02, 2009 Fun Arrangement

This was a fun song to learn, play, and listen to. This arrangement was really a little too hard for our mixed-ability church bell choir. Even with a lot of practice, we didn't do a great job with it. However, the group had fun working on it and...

the congregation enjoyed our performance. We were able to include a flute and tambourine, so our performance was kind of special. The flute part adds a lot to the song, but the handbells can stand alone quite nicely. I think this arrangement would be fun and challenging even for a more accomplished group. The changes in dynamics really enhance the song for the listeners.
