Composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Arranged by Frank Starobin. Christmas,Concert,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 17 pages. Frank Starobin #3400563. Published by Frank Starobin (A0.874056).

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's ballet The Nutcracker debuted in 1892. One of the best-known scenes from the work is Pas de Deux which comes near the end of the ballet. This version for brass quintet places muted trumpets, horn, and trombone in the role of the plucked strings and harps, while the tuba plays the melody followed by an unmuted trombone. Players should experiment with both straight mutes and cup mutes. Some other notes on this arrangement:

-ppp dynamics should not be so soft that quality of sound is degraded. -the trumpet runs at bar 56 should be played in time and unrushed -duration 4:45
