The trumpeters need to have advanced technigue and control to perform this piece. While the range required is not as wide as some of Persichetti's other Parables for Trumpet, the trumpeters must work together closely in interpretation to bring out its beauty, and have good breath control. Part of...

its beauty is in the use of different mutes, which gives it many colors of sound. The church that we will use it has wonderful acoustics for brass, and Parable XXV will be a welcome addition to the modern repertoire. It is "interesting" enough to both challenge as well as let the performers present their skills. Much of this piece's beauty is in the many "moods" required and indicated by the composer, from "dolorose" to "vigoroso" and "Affabile". Requires much work, but well worth the effort.
