  • July 07, 2019 Poor print quality

A wonderful piece of music, but the print quality is poor to the extent than some of the text is unreadable. As an amateur timpanist, I often but study scores such as this. I am currently looking at the Overture to Candide and the Eulenberg study score for Gershwin's...

Rhapsody in Blue, the printing of which is exemplary. I can't understand why the publishers of the Candide score cannot achieve the same standard. It was not cheap!

  • May 18, 2008 CONCERT OPENER!

"There's so much to say about Overture to Candide. One word comes to my mind when I played it...HARD! This piece is extremely difficult but yet fun simultaneously. Whether it's being played by an Orchestra or Symphonic Band, it's still hard. I've seen many bands...

,orchestras, and All-State Bands play this piece and have enjoyed it."

  • November 27, 2007 Berstein at his creative best

The Overture to Candide has remained one of the most popular concert openers of the 20th century and today continues to delight audiences. Bernstein's uniquely cheeky style combine wit and lyricism to bring to life the adventures of the main characters in the plot. Rhythmic, melodic, and filled with...

colorful orchestration effects this is great work for orchestra. It is not easy! I believe it can be done by most orchestras, but attention needs to be given to the rhythmic challenges.

  • July 11, 2006 a must buy!

The entire piece is only about 4 minutes and 39 seconds but is byfar one of the most enjoyable compositions to listen to.
