Practical Service Music and Tips for the Emerging Organist

By James Southbridge

Organ: 2-staff - Easy
Practical Service Music and Tips for the Emerging Organist. Composed by James Southbridge. Sacred. Lorenz Publishing Company #70/1570L. Published by Lorenz Publishing Company (LO.70-1570L).

Item Number: LO.70-1570L

A stunning collection of service music and helpful hints designed for one specific keyboardist: a pianist dragooned into playing that terrifying instrument known as-gasp!-an organ. Far from being a scary ordeal, however, this compilation is quite "userfriendly" for that particularly brave pianist. The first section of the book contains preludes, offertories and postludes that can be played quite comfortably by the manuals alone. The second section involves organ music with very rudimentary pedaling or easy pedals that correspond to the fifth finger of the pianist's left hand. The final section provides valuable tips and exercises to ease the transition from piano to organ with special attention given to what to do with your dangling feet! "Organ Music for the Church Pianist" is an essential resource for the transitioning keyboardist.

This book is great -- just what I needed to jumpstart my transition to the organ. I actually played with the pedals last Sunday. Slowly. As far as the book's difficulty level, the songs are easy for a pianist, but adding the pedals makes any easy song hard. By the...

way, first I played some of the manuals-only pieces -- made me sound good at the organ with minimum effort!

What a treat to find this book! I am a fill in church pianist who has been asked to step in occasionally to play the organ. I have been stumbling through it terribly. This book is really helping me! I especially appreciate that there are easy to play songs in...

there you can play on the organ -without pedals- that actually make it sound like I know what I'm doing! Ha! I would recommend this book for someone in my shoes.

This is a wonderful collection of music. The humn arrangements are beautiful. The is a lot of "grateful" music (sounds harder than it is). I highly recommend this book.
