Piano Solo - Advanced - Digital Download
Composed by Salim Haddad. 21st Century, Contemporary Classical, Post-Romantic, Modern. Score. 8 pages. Published by Salim Haddad (S0.427215).

Item Number: S0.427215

A piece inspired by the piano music of Kaikhosru Sorabji. I was also influenced by the atonal piano music of Boulez, Xenakis and Skalkottas, namely Piano Sonata No. 2, Herma and the Passacaglia respectively. "Calidoscopium" is Latin for Kaleidoscope, because of the different styles and patterns. The most technically difficult sections can be heard at 0:39 and beginning at 1:51 on the accompanying audio recording (0:36 and 1:48 on the YT video recording). It would be a good idea to leave something in reserve for the latter section! A challenging piece, but a rewarding one to learn and play.

Salim Haddad, Canadian composer and pianist.

Salim is mainly self-taught on the piano, having started this instrument at the age of 20 and worked on his own for six years. A grade ten level (RCM) was achieved. He then enrolled in music school for a year, further improving through participation in recitals and master classes. He also taught himself composition and has written music for piano and organ.

Concert pianists will benefit from this piece, as well as advanced students looking to improve technique. Salim is currently working on larger scores for this instrument and a few for organ. They will be posted when they are complete. On the site below you may view performances of his piano works, as well as those of other composers.
