An animated retelling of the Loaves and Fishes story, with "generosity" at its core. Composed by Elizabeth Alexander. Anthems, Canons, Sacred, Christian, Thanksgiving, Latin Jazz. Choral Score. Duration 4 minutes. Published by Seafarer Press (SF.SEA-116-00).Text by: Elizabeth Alexander.
The verse of this timeless tale is infused with dry wit and Latin jazz rhythms, while the canonic chorus is a graceful prayer of thanks. During performance of Only a Couple Fishes, the audience may be invited to sing the chorus with the choir. The chorus, entitled Song of the Five Thousand, may be performed separately by a choir or congregation.
Technical notes: Much of this song is in unison, with a descant during a short bridge. The chorus is sung in unison until its final occurrence, at which time it may be sung in 2, 3 or 4 parts, with or without the participation of the audience.
Composer's note: The mystery of this timeless story lies in the source of the limitless bounty -- does the feast come from a divine source, or from human generosity? It was important to me to tell this story with pluck, but to preserve this all important question.
