“Ofthe Father's Love Begotten” is a Christmas carol that pairs a textbased on the Latin poem “Corde natus ex parentis” by the Romanpoet Aurelius Prudentius with a medieval plainchant melody, “Divinummysterium” (Divine Mystery), from the 1582 Finnish song book PiaeCantiones. The text is a rich theological statementthat speaks of the Son of God's eternal nature, of creation, the fallof mankind into sin, the prophecies of a coming Messiah, the virginbirth and the incarnation of God, and salvation in Christ, concludingwith stanzas of praise to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Inthis intermediate-level arrangement, traditional harmonies, extendedchords and open intervals in parallel motion evoke both the ancientand modern. Suitable for high school to professional ensemblesfor use in concert, recital, and worship. Full score and parts,8.5x11-inch format.
