Piano Accompaniment, Choir, SSA - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download
Composed by Joan E. Thomas and Jennifer J. Durham. 21st Century, Contemporary Classical, Neo-Classical, Recital. Octavo, Sheet Music Single. 9 pages. Published by Jennifer Durham (S0.190815).

Item Number: S0.190815

"O stately forest thy shadowy arches kind, thou art the only listener of my heart."  An art song based on the poetry of Joan E. Thomas, this piece eloquently expresses emotional struggle while offering a respite in nature.  One can almost see a child cradled in the limbs of a majestic old tree.  Beginning with a solo soprano statement of the first stanza, the piano then enters, with the remainder of the piece in SSA harmony.  Your college or mature high school women's choir will take this piece to heart.

This piece is appropriate for any choral concert or recital.  It's also challenging enough for festivals or trio competitions.  Try it for Earth Day!

Simply exquisite. I heard this piece performed about two years ago and loved it. I had no idea where to find it afterward. I’m elated to have discovered it here! I found it to be emotional and compelling. Simply beautiful.

Unforgettable. I heard this performed about two years ago and never forgot it. I keep hoping that I can find a way to incorporate it into future programs now that I have finally located the music. I would love to see it written for women’s solo.

Exquisite--haunting and lush. What a great introduction to close harmonies with just enough dissonance to be beautiful.

My girls (and a couple of tenors on alto!) love this pieces. The lyrics are haunting, and the harmonies challenging but rewarding.
