This sacred classic is like a penitential psalm, full of anguished cries for rescue and redemption. The beautiful melody of the refrain elicits great passionate pleas for God's mercy, making it a perfect Lenten anthem. Jack Schrader has crafted a very singable version of this jewel from the pen of Charles Gounod.

  • December 28, 2017 Nice, easier version, but still complicated

This is a somewhat easier version (but still complicated), and easier for the pianist to play. Not at all similar to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir version if that is what you are looking for. Still a nice piece of music, but we opted for the other version as it is...

more like what choir members were used to hearing.
