This is the original edition of the most remembered novelty piano piece by the early 20th century American pianist and composer, Felix Arndt. For the advanced player, this lighthearted piece, written as an engagement gift to his fiancee and future wife, shows the influence of ragtime music on this vaudeville composer.

  • July 25, 2018 Love this piece!

This is the original piano music and it's fun to work on. As a pianist I look for patterns, which helps a lot with practice and muscle memory: triplets mostly on count one then on counts 3 and 4 of second measures, motifs going up and down the keyboard...

, etc. I had most of these in my fingers within an hour. I still have a ways to go for the entire piece. It has a darling melody. It reminds me a bit of Scott Joplin. It's not the version Liberace performed. He added an intro, repeated sections an octave higher, added a motif of "Yankee Doodle", and many flourishes. One can add what they want. However, it is fun, it's the original version, and I am enjoying learning it very much. I highly recommend this piece.

My mother, who was born in 1921, played this piece. It can be a lot of fun and even funny with the right interpretation. This sheet music is exactly like my mom's. I was surprised it's still in print.

This "Nola" is from the 40's or 50's, I got it for my Dad who wanted to give it to the piano lady that comes in everyweek and plays for the residents of the assisted living home. He had Nola and Doll Dance and could not locate either...

copy so I went online and found both and send them to him. Now maybe someone can play it for him so he can hear them again.
