By Chamber Soloists of Austin. By Edward Burlingame Hill. Classical. Listening CD. Published by Naxos (NX.PIR0053).

Item Number: NX.PIR0053

The music of Harvard Professor and composer, Edward Burlingame Hill is in the Romantic tradition touched by Impressionism and an occasional reference ot jazz. He was a pupil of John Knowles Paine and Charles Marie Widor, and the teacher of many of the great American Composers of the 20th century: Leonard Bernstein, Randall Thompson, Virgil Thomson and Walter Piston. During his lifetime his music was performed on 80 occasions by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, mostly with Koussevitzky conducting. This release gives us an opportunity to rediscover the richly expressive music of a "lost" American composer.
