I am musical director of a small amateur concert band with players of all levels of capability. This arrangement has distilled the feeling of the work into a short concert band medley. It has retained the atmosphere effectively. Those players with the rhythmic effect in the first allegro are currently...

struggling to get to grips with playing against each other, which is good practice for them. My one criticism would be that an important part of this effect is given to the bass clarinet alone. Not every band has a bass clarinet!
