    Hudson Valley Baritone
    Difficulty Level:
  • June 16, 2008 Hagen and Muldoon

This cycle was written when Hagen was really grooving on Muldoon's poetry. I recommend it.

    Baritone Guy
    Difficulty Level:
  • October 09, 2007 HOLY THURSDAY

The clear standout of this cycle is the song "Holy Thursday" which is widely performed and admired. Honestly, Paul Muldoon's poetry often seems overly clever by half to me, but Hagen's music warms it up and gives it an emotional immediacy that it otherwise (to me, at least...

) lacks. The notable exception are these early poems by Muldoon -- especialyl "Holy Thursday," which is both noble, sad, and touching on the part of both poet and composer. Highly recommended as a cycle.
