My daughter, who is a high school junior in the top 10 percent of players, heard this piece and wanted to play it. It has a slow, beautiful opening lyrical section, followed by a slightly faster and more dramatic section. Then it launches into the allegro moderato, beginning with the ascending sixteenth note scale and also containing a lovely lyrical theme. Then there are 8 bars of sostenuto that contain the climactic and dramatic high note of the piece. Then we recapitulate with the ascending sixteenth note theme, which is then extended with increasing tempo creating the fabulously dramatic ending. Piano part will be too difficult for many amateur accompanists, but accessible to professionals with minimal practice.

I have a student who plays very well, but is only just starting to learn tenor clef. This edition is identical to the other editions I own, except it's in bass clef. (It also comes with Bb treble clef for euphonium/baritone.)

This solo is a great college audition piece! It shows of a player's musicality and range!
