This mass and its accompanying anthem ('The Shepherd', EP 7986) are based on the hymn 'Awake my soul, and with the sun, thy daily stage of duty run.' It is not obligatory to perform the hymn in the service, especially if the anthem is performed, as it quotes from the hymn. If performed, the anthem should be placed after Lamb of God.

Commissioned by Bromley Parish to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the consecration of the new church (the original building having been destroyed by bombing in April 1941)
