I like to use this series for the more gifted beginner. It moves quickly and is a bit more challenging. I use supplemental material to fill in any gaps I perceive, as all students have different needs and progress differently.

I learned from the Michael Aaron books myself 50 years ago, and I still like them the best. I've got several piano students using this book, and they're all progressing well. The orderly sequence of introductory principles of music is very good. The tunes are pleasant for the...

piano students. I've had an overall very positive experience for many years with this book.

  • June 11, 2007 Uneven Progression

This course provides a great collection of interesting pieces, but the method itself is a fairly uneven progression. Difficult music pops up without adequate preparation, causing frustration for all but very bright students. The supplemental books cover portions of the method, but leave wide gaps in the developmental process. Due...

to the great quality of the pieces, this book and the Repertoire books are best used as repertoire collections to supplement a more pedagogically solid curriculum

  • January 20, 2006 Best start for gifted students

Fletcher, Thompson Schaum, etc. have their place. I find this book to be the best for my smart students,as it has pieces that constantly increase in difficulty ( both musically and technically ), is interesting, and is packed with nice pieces to learn. There are very few plateaus in this series...

.If you run across a student who doesn't need a "hand position" crutch,is a self starter, a composer, one who thinks music-this is the book.
