    P. Glass's "Melodies for Saxophone" is a great collection of music for the solo instrumentalist, be it violin, flute etc. They comprise 12 melodies and work for any saxophone, some pieces lending themselves more naturally to certain horns. The pieces vary from the romantic and tuneful love songs, to...

the suspenseful and the dangerous chase sequences. Some are quite easy, simple melodies, while others tear into the listener with jagged lines, varied repetition, and the additive patterns we associate with Glass's music. Great for solo recitals or for woodshedding with a metronome, this slim collection would be welcome in any musician's bag.
