Maurice Ravel - Collected Songs - High Voice

Vocal (High Voice)
Vocal Collection. Published by Editions Durand (HL.50600023).

Item Number: HL.50600023

ISBN 0634065610. 9x12 inches.

The melodies of Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) span the entire chronology of his creative output, from his earliest song, written during his student years, to the cycle Don Quichotte à Dulcinée, his last composition in any genre. Ravel's vocal melodies are elegant and refined, classical in their phrase structure, with meticulous attention to detail. The diverse musical influences on his song style range from French Baroque music, to his teacher Gabriel Fauré, to Arnold Schoenberg. This is the first comprehensive collection of Ravel songs ever published. There are 50 songs in the High Voice volume, and 49 songs in the Medium/Low Voice volume. The collection also includes excerpts from the opera L'Enfant et les Sortilèges.

I've waited for five long months till I got this fantastic book! It woarths every cent. This is the best compilation of Ravel songs on the music market. The advantage is that the scores in this volume are just for high voice so you don't have to by...

tons of other scores. Even if you are not a big fan of impressionistic music when you hear this lovely music and dazzling lyrics you will be enchanted at a glance. If you don't belive me try to find Cecilia Bartoli's CD 'Chant d'Amour'. The volume contains a short introduction in composer's life and work and also an English translation of all the songs included.
