    Nice Variety of Pieces

    The one and two movement sonatinas here (13, not 8) range from the earliest intermediate (Duncombe, Gurlitt) to more challenging intermediate fare (Bertini and Pleyel). Some are familiar works anthologized elsewhere (Kabalevsky), but many are charming novelties (Vanhal and Wesley). Well edited with ample fingering. Highly recommended.

    Masters of the Sonatina, Book 1

    A good publication for easier sonatinas, appropriate for sonatina festivals, in that they contain two movements.Sonatinas by good composers, in Classical style. These are definitely early intermediate level pieces, despite the easier designation, and would not be appropriate for elementary level students.Students will be challenged by the usual characteristics of the sonatina style: Good balance between melody and accompaniment, clean phrasing and phrase shaping, Alberti bass, and clear articulation.
