  • November 29, 2021 Interesting, but flawed transcription

    There are some convincing solutions to this sonata in this edition, but also some truly baffling moments where the arranger comes close to “recomposing” some of the music. For example, on the very first page of the Prelude we are presented in measure 2 with a C natural in the...

    bass (it’s a D in the original).Then in measure 3 the second quarter note B-flat is positively idiotic. According to the composer—the actual composer, that is—it is meant to be a C, and wow does the preposterous B-flat change things. Mind you, these are not “errors”, but decisions. Pretty daft. I’d skip this edition.
