For many years I have been a huge fan of Thomas Newman's film scores and Little Women most of all, but I have only just discovered this piano solo, a transcription which is very faithful to the music heard on first track of the soundtrack (or opening credits of...

the film). It almost passes for a true piano reduction of the orchestral score, and the omissions are understandable for the sake of playability. The beautiful and demanding contrapuntal "fanfare" sections (and, generally, the need for a subtle touch to communicate the music's broad tonal palette) put this one into an early-Advanced category.
